BA1 Clothing Iterations

Using photographs I had taken of myself as reference I created templates to practice creating armour over. These were quick value studies to learn now to create leather, fur, cloth, and metallic like creations for my character

Some of the designs I created were better than others and this one greatly helped inspire some of my final full body clothing iterations.

I created several full body clothing/outfit iterations for my character outsourcing various ideas and materials from what existed during the iron age and well as trying to create unique and interesting designs from simple items such as metal and leather.

The first design was very simple mimicking a standard celtic villager by designing a tattered shirt and creating the very common checkered pattern on the king's trousers to give it a celtic feel.

The second was very much embracing the "less is more" approach equipping him with light armour to allow for nimble navigation in fights against far more heavily armoured opponents. It is mainly created using leather straps and padding as well as medal plating for aesthetics as well as defensive functions.

The third was much more of a regal design aiming to be minimal in defense but more as a day to day outfit that would be worn during peace time around the village, A long cloak with warm padded shoulders and an iron ring as a crown really seemed to give off the chieftan like appearance i wanted.

The fourth was a much more minimal yet aesthetic design using thin cloth to create both a lower cover as well as a short cloak. He weilds a visually striking single glove most likely used to swing a far more striking sword or axe.

The fifth and final design was far more creative and chaotic and I wanted to create a king that would instill fear in his enemies. The shoulder pad forged from a scavenged roman helmet as well as the chained gauntlet all signal towards a war monger of a character with littl to fear and a lot to dish out.

In the end however I felt there were so many design's I liked from each of the iterations that I decided to merge all of them into one taking the best parts from each to create the final outfit above. By removing the cloak it can make both a casual and battle hardened looking character and will suit my King's intended persona well. This final design may be tweaked slightly before creating the model sheet and final piece. The colour scheme will be determined when creating the model sheet yet will likely involve several greens and browns and metalic coating where necessary. The tribal markings will almost certainly be red however to contrast well with the opposing colours of the outfit,

BA1 Character Iterations

For the Character Iterations I believe that the body type had already been predetermined due to his war chieftan like status and thus then generic strong man would be his body type. From research I found that there was little variation in hairstyle and thus concentrated on creating several highly detailed facial concepts for my character. Creating them in value allowed the process to be quicker and would not take away from the form of the face if colour was involved.

In the end I chose to use the 6th facial design for my character. I believed it had a good combination of brute/ primitive in it as well as a sense of age and experience of combat in his face.

BA1 Synopsis

Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Tinder Box” Synopsis

“... A soldier weary from his travels finds himself presented with unimaginable riches offered to him by a mysterious woman along his path. He does as is expected of any man and retrieves these riches as well as a strange object the woman desires greatly. Curious as to why she longed for it over such wealth as gold and silver the soldier decides to keep it as well as slaying the woman upon her attempt to take it off him.
He squanders his wealth upon many of the joys of life and finds himself without anything but the strange object he had so eagerly killed for. Upon discovering its powers and using them to regain his lost riches he turned his eyes to a greater prize.
The princess’ beauty had often been boasted of yet no one had ever laid eyes on her for the king had locked her away from all behind towers and walls of stone and copper. Filled with curiosity the soldier used his newly acquired power to have the princess retrieved and brought to his room. She was returned as promptly as she was brought in and upon witnessing her beauty he could not help but wish to see her again.
The King in the meanwhile had realised the disappearance of his beloved daughter and through his determination and his wife’s cunning they were able to track the daughter to the soldier’s home and imprison him. The King would never allow the prophecy of a marriage between his daughter and a soldier to come true and ordered the execution of the soldier to take place.

Unfortunately for the King the soldier had powers beyond him and come the day of his execution the soldier was able to summon terrible beasts of darkness and malice. As mighty as the king was he could not overcome the soldier’s spawn and fell to their onslaught. The good king had fallen, and instead a tyrant picked up his crown and ruled the land with the princess at his side and fear as his instrument…”

[Due to losing my usb containing the entire first half of my BA1 on the 31st of OCT several pieces of work are missing and despite working daily since its loss to recover previous work as well as continue as scheduled I have been unable to recreate the entire project in half the time and have selected to complete what were deemed the most important pieces. I apologise for this but there is little i can do than inform you of this before viewing the project in its "entireity"]
