BA1 Final Environment/Character Piece

The Final Environment piece with the Character included was created by refining the 2 environment thumbnails and creating far harsher lights and smoother flow of colour.

I really like the mixtures of blues and purples as well as the contrasting deep green and flaming orange of the character who's business here is unknown. Another concept did have for this piece was to set the structures ablaze clearly outlining what the character has just done however i felt the clutter of light and contrasting colours upon the skyline would be to much and draw attention away from the character as well as the scenic snowscape and lighting above.

BA1 Final Environment Piece

The Final Environment Piece was created using the foundations of my final environment thumbnail. The structure was inspired by woodwork seen in the constructions of real roman forts as well as the fantasy creation of Rohirrim structures created for "The Lord of the Rings" film saga. The setting is on a plain overlooked by snow capped hills somewhere in southern Britain as the sun is setting.

Overall i was pleased with the colour pallet yet i feel lighting could have been strong on both the cracked roof inside and the face of the barn like structure. Given more time i would add further detailing the wood itself such as grain work and potentially create more objects within the structure to make it appear less barren.

BA1 Final Character Piece

This is my Final Character Piece depicting the now old and tired king resting upon his throne.

I believe i was able to successfully recreate the character I had imagined using my model sheet as the main reference to pose him in such a way. Given more time I would potentially detail the back drop a lot more at the risk of taking attention away from the character however.

BA1 Final Character Idea

A line work draft for the final pose and set up for the character piece. It depicts this now aging and tired war chieftan in his exalted village hut who rules over his lands with limited concern. His attention is only to protecting his daughter ad little else matters other than this.

The back drop is a finely craft throne and a room draped in red clothes most likely to be the colours of his clan or tribe, or as roman material either gained through favour or taken through conquest...

BA1 Environment Thumbnails (Colour)

Colour Study for the first thumbnail. Midday and the sun is high with clouds propelling from it, the vegetation is lush and the seas calm, if only the village people knew of what was to come the next day...

Colour Study for the second thumbnail. The snow glistens below the bright night sky, yet no carols are to be heard, for though the cold consumes all this place is hell on earth...

Colour Study for the third thumbnail. It is certain that a strange magic lingers over this place, yet there are none courageous enough to explore this now hollowed remnant of a once proud family...

Colour Study for the fourth thumbnail. The sun sets once again on this monument to vanity and another night of feasting and joy shall occur. If only the fools knew of the one to come, the one who would bring an end to this world upon the backs of hounds...

BA1 Environment Thumbnails (Value)

Value study of the first thumbnail. The light was created in such a way to emphasise the intimidating appearance of the roman structural goliath above the hill staring ominously down towards the village lying at its mouth...

Value study of the second thumbnail. Do not be deceived by the beauty of the sky above for the tale below is a cold and harsh one filled with misery and oppression as this roman mine continues its endeavours on the backs of the slaves that keep its furnaces lit.

Value study of the third thumbnail. Though tranquil during the day this eerie setting becomes a place few wish to venture to upon sundown... travelers have often claimed to here howling echo from this abandoned domain...

Value study of the forth thumbnail. A nest for a king created through the exchange of knowledge and loyalty for wealth and pleasures from across the known world. But who knows how many were betrayed and led to slaughter as hands were shook and pleasantries exchanged...

BA1 Environment Thumbnails (Line)

Line study of the first thumbnail, setting was created with a roman coast side fort overseeing a small celtic village...

Line study of the second thumbnail, the setting was to be far up north where the climate is harsh and cold, this roman mine often used slaves from various conquests across Britain as "voluntary" workers...

Line study of the third thumbnail, a wealthy man's barn and protective walls elevated above the surrounding lands and lake, home to only the strongest of chieftans...

Line study of the fourth thumbnail, through trade and dealings this war chief was able to barter with their temporary allies for his knowledge of the land and neighbouring tribes in return for fine wears and craftsmanship unattainable through anyone but the romans...

BA1 Environment Thumbnail Concepts

16 rough ideas for my 4 environment thumbnails focusing solely on value and composition to determine the most effect settings.

I narrowed it down to these 4 final concepts to be developed further in to line, value, and colour thumbnails due to what i believe are strong studies of composition with great potential for interesting sky boxes, colour and lighting.

BA1 Model Sheet

The Final model sheet shows the front and back views of the king with and without his cloak and additional armour. These views more than display the cloak so it was not necessary to create side views for him.

The side views also display his markings, straps, and various apparel appropriately and because the arms are not obscuring any hidden detail i felt it unnecessary to remove them.

BA1 Character Sheet

Some very quick and simple poses of my character and a rough walk and hold cycle. With more time I would have liked to have included the final facial iteration and altered it to created several expression as well as add quick colour and defined clothing to these models to make it more presentable to an animator.
